Simply connect your older Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 equipped Mac to a Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4 or USB-C and USB4 device using a certified Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 (mDP) Adapter and a Thunderbolt cable. It's that easy.
One note: When connecting a newer Thunderbolt (USB-C) device to an older Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 (mDP) Mac, the device must be a self-powered. Bus-powered devices are not supported via the Apple adapter.

If you have older Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 (mDP) drives, docks, and displays, you can keep using them with your newer Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) equipped Mac or iPad. You will need a certified Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 (mDP) Adapter which can be used bi-directionally – meaning it can also be used to connect an older Thunderbolt device to your newer Thunderbolt Mac or iPad. It's an easy way to extend the life of your older Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 devices!
One note: When connecting an older Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 (mDP) device to a newer Thunderbolt (USB-C) Mac or iPad, the device must be a self-powered. Bus-powered devices are not supported via the Apple adapter.
