Refund policy

Macfixit Australia (ABN 84 668 579 548) — Australian owned and operated since 2005. Last updated: 18 September 2026.

This page explains how returns and refunds work for everything we sell. Brand-new products and refurbished devices have different change-of-mind windows, so please read the section that applies to your purchase. Faulty items are covered separately under the Australian Consumer Law no matter what you bought.

1. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Nothing in this policy limits those rights. The change-of-mind windows and restocking fees below apply only when there is nothing wrong with the item.

2. Brand-new products — 30-day change of mind

Applies to new, unused products (accessories, storage, docks, cables, RAM, batteries, new Macs and similar).

  • Window: contact us within 30 days of delivery.
  • Restocking fee: 15% of the product price is deducted from the refund.
  • Return postage: you arrange and pay for return shipping.
  • Condition: the item must be complete, in good working order, in its original undamaged packaging with all accessories, manuals and tags. Items with missing packaging, scratches or other damage may be declined or subject to a restocking fee of up to 50%, at our discretion.
  • After 30 days: change-of-mind returns are not accepted. Faults are covered under section 4 and the manufacturer's warranty.

3. Refurbished devices — 3-day change of mind

Applies to refurbished Macs, iPhones, iPads, displays and other devices sold as refurbished, open-box or used.

  • Window: contact us within 3 days of delivery.
  • Restocking fee: none for refurbished devices restored by Macfixit, provided the device is returned in the same condition as shipped.
  • Return postage: free — we send you a return label.
  • Apple factory-refurbished, sealed units: these are supplied brand-new and factory-sealed by Apple. A change-of-mind return is accepted only if the unit is still factory-sealed and undamaged, and a 15% restocking fee applies. Opened, used or unsealed units cannot be returned for change of mind.
  • Condition: every return is inspected. The device must come back complete with all accessories and cables, in its original packaging, in the same condition it left us, with your RMA number on the parcel.
  • What voids a change-of-mind return: any physical damage (drops, dents, scratches, cracked glass) or liquid damage. If damage is found on inspection, the return is declined and the device can be sent back to you at your expense.

This 3-day window does not limit your rights if the device is faulty — see section 4.

4. Faulty or incorrectly supplied items

If an item arrives faulty, becomes faulty within its warranty period, or is not what you ordered:

  • Contact us with your order number and a description or photos of the problem.
  • We will send you a free return label — there is no restocking fee and no return shipping cost to you.
  • Once we have confirmed the fault, we will repair, replace or refund the item, as required under the Australian Consumer Law.
  • Outside our 30-day / 3-day windows, the manufacturer's warranty applies and we will arrange the repair or replacement with the manufacturer on your behalf. Refunds are provided where the item has a major failure or has been returned repeatedly for the same fault.

Warranty periods: refurbished devices carry the warranty stated on the product page (typically 12 months; extended warranty available at purchase). New products carry the manufacturer's warranty.

5. Repair services and mail-in parts

Applies to repair services booked with us and to parts sold with installation (logic boards, displays, batteries, iMac driver-board installation and similar).

  • No change of mind once work has started. Repair services and installed parts cannot be returned or cancelled for change of mind after diagnosis or installation has begun. If you cancel before work starts, any deposit is refunded in full.
  • No fix, no fee. If we cannot repair your device, you are not charged for the repair. Return shipping of an unrepaired device may be charged at cost.
  • Workmanship warranty. All repairs carried out by Macfixit are covered by a 6-month workmanship warranty on the parts we installed and the work we performed. If a repaired fault returns within that period, we will repair it again at no charge.
  • Not covered: subsequent physical or liquid damage, faults unrelated to the repair, and issues caused by third-party work after ours.
  • Data: please back up your device before sending it in. We are not responsible for data loss during repair.

6. How to return an item

  1. Contact us through our Contact page within the window that applies to your purchase. Include your order number and the reason for the return. We will reply with a Return Authorisation (RMA) number and, for faulty items or refurbished devices, a prepaid return label.
  2. Pack the item as it arrived — complete with all accessories, cables and original packaging — and write the RMA number clearly on the parcel. Returns without an RMA number may be delayed or declined.
  3. We inspect and refund. Once the item arrives and passes inspection, we refund you to your original payment method within 7 business days. Your bank or card issuer may take a few extra days to show the refund.

If an inspection finds the item is not as described in your return request, we will contact you before taking any action.

7. Items that cannot be returned for change of mind

  • Gift cards and store credit.
  • Digital downloads (for example, eBooks) once delivered.
  • Special-order or custom-configured items ordered specifically for you.
  • Consumables and items that have been opened and used where hygiene applies (for example, in-ear products), unless faulty.

These items remain covered by the Australian Consumer Law if faulty.
