When delivered the 2 8T drives were installed. To set unit up as RAID1 I need to alter internal switch so I needed screwdriver that comes with ACasis unit. Perhaps when ordered the purchaser should be asked which of the 4 disk configuration the purchaser wanted and you could do switching required.

I wouldn’t trust these for RAID editing or anything mission critical especially real-time video editing because the USB bridge/controller is the weak link. Even if the drives themselves are top-notch IronWolfs, a single controller hiccup can cause disconnects, freezes, or worse… data corruption in a RAID setup. That’s not something you want in the middle of an edit.
Here’s the realistic sweet spot for these enclosures:
Good uses:
JBOD backups or extra storage for files that aren’t being constantly accessed
Light media libraries (photos, audio, movies)
Occasional file transfers
Storage for things like Time Machine or incremental backups
Not great for:
RAID 0 or RAID 1 for active video editing or large project files
Anything requiring truly constant uptime without supervision
Heavy simultaneous read/write activity for days on end
Basically, think of these enclosures as “fast external storage for casual or backup use,” not a replacement for a NAS or Thunderbolt RAID unit built for professional work. For me not very happy as they were recommended for video work. I wont be buying another one !
