Find your MacBook battery

Enter your Apple Model ID or A-number — or filter by screen size and year. Some A-numbers cover more than one model, so check the year to pick the exact match.

? How do I find my Mac’s A number?

How to Find Your MacBook’s A Number

The A number is printed on the underside of your MacBook’s bottom case. Flip it over and look for “Model A” followed by 4 digits.

1

Flip your MacBook over

Turn your MacBook upside down so the bottom case is facing up.

2

Find the model label

Look for the small text near the centre of the bottom panel. You’ll see “Model AXXXX” — the 4-digit number after the “A” is your A number.

Pro tip: The A number on your bottom case is exactly what you type into the Battery Finder above. Enter it and we’ll find the right battery instantly.

How long does a Mac battery last?
It depends on how you use your Mac — how you charge it and which model you have. As a rough guide, expect around 3–5 years before a replacement is needed. If you mostly use it plugged in as a desktop you’ll go through fewer charge cycles, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the battery will last longer.
What is a good battery cycle count?
Cycle count is only one indicator of battery health. A Mac that has been plugged in most of the time can show a low cycle count yet still have a degraded battery, so there’s no single “good” number. As a general rule fewer cycles is better — but it really depends on how you’ve charged and used the device.
Is a swollen or bloated battery dangerous?
Yes. A failing lithium battery can swell even while macOS reports a “Normal” condition. If your trackpad is lifting or the case is separating, stop using the Mac immediately — a swollen battery is a fire and safety hazard. Replace it promptly to avoid damaging other components.
How good are Macfixit batteries?
Macfixit batteries are high-quality third-party replacement cells — tested for safety and reliability, and backed by a 1-Year Australian warranty plus a 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee.
