Older MacBooks

Go to Apple Menu → About This Mac
Click System Report → Power
Find your Cycle Count and Condition
Condition shows: Normal, Replace Soon, Replace Now, or Service Battery

Newer MacBooks

Go to System Settings → Battery
Click the (i) icon next to Battery Health
Check your Maximum Capacity percentage
Below 80% capacity = time to replace

iPhone

Go to Settings → Battery
Tap Battery Health & Charging
Check your Maximum Capacity percentage
Below 80% = battery is degraded
iPhone may throttle performance to prevent shutdowns

Watch out for swollen batteries

A swollen or bloated battery may look normal at first but can cause your trackpad to warp or components to separate. If you notice any bulging under the bottom case, replace the battery promptly.

How easy is it to replace my MacBook Pro battery myself?

From 2012, Apple introduced the MacBook Pro Retina with a glued-down battery, meaning replacements through to the 2020 models require adhesive removal techniques and the right tools — but they're definitely doable.

From 2021 onward, MacBook Pro batteries are held in place with stretch-release adhesive pull tabs that anyone can remove without special chemicals or tools. The rest of the process involves handling screws, connectors, and cables, and is generally straightforward.

How easy is it to replace my MacBook Air battery myself?

MacBook Air battery replacements are generally easier than MacBook Pro. Models released before 2018 simply require removing the bottom case, disconnecting the battery, and unscrewing a few screws.

From 2018 onward, the battery is held down with adhesive pull tabs — still very manageable. All models involve handling screws, connectors, cables, and clips, which our install videos walk you through step by step.
