Having had two very reliable Drobos in a video editing suite for the past 20 years I upgraded to the thunderbolt 3 model to house all my Avid MXF HD 1080p media (5tb of 8tb total capacity). Speed of access is amazing, no stutters and pauses, and I couldn’t be happier with performance, easy setup, and intelligence to do all the hard stuff for me.

Drobo Replacement

I had been using my Drobo 5D for 7 years and it was starting to become ‘a bit irregular’, so I decided to replace it. The Drobo 5D3 upgrades the bay to USB C . The transition was painless; just turn the old one off, remove the hard drives, put them in the 5D3, turn on the 5D3, all data instantly available!! The new system is a lot faster with the TB3 interface.

Usual easy Drobo setup, with very reasonable file transfer speeds prior to adding the m SATA drive to the base for a speed boost. Now ripping 12-13 Gb per minute now so very happy. A real boost in productivity for me.
